Life Member of the GVFUA Steve Durling at Deakin Reserve Sheppaton, late 70's early 80's. U16's St Colmans v Mooroopna.

Steve celebrated 10 yrs service with the GVFUA in 1980. He was awarded Best Club person in 1977 & Coaches Award in 1981. Steve was inducted as a life member of the GVFUA in 1980.

From 1997, Ian Goldrick (L) & Chris McCallum (R) who officiated the @gvleague Senior grand Final.

This was Ian's third of Five GVL Senior Grand Finals, officiating in 1993, 1995, 1997, 2007 & 2008. He also officiated four @murrayfootnet League Senior Grand Finals in 1996, 1998, 1999 & 2009. As well as the 2010 @kyabramdistrictleague Senior Grand Final.

Chris umpired twelve GVL Grand Finals 1993, 1995, 1996, 1997, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005. Two Kyabram District League Grand Finals in 1988 & 1990, and four Murray Football League Grand Finals in 1991, 1992, 1994 & 2007.

Both Chris & Ian were coaches at the GVFUA following their umpiring careers.

Thanks to AFL umpire Nick Brown who made the trip to Shepparton Swans tonight to provide match day coaching to four Junior Club Umpires in U12 games of the Goulburn Murray Junior League.

Some great tips provided to the umpires to help improve their umpiring for the remainder of the season. Credit to the umpires for applying the feedback almost instantly!

Today, the 2nd of April marks one of the saddest days in GVFUA’s history.

On this day in 2016, in very tragic circumstances, Greg Sidebottom, who was officiating as one of the field umpires in the KDL senior game between Ardmona and Undera, collapsed, and despite the best efforts of those involved, sadly passed away.

“Sidey” as he was known around the GVFUA, was a life member of our association and was in many ways was the face of the GVFUA, as he tirelessly went about meeting and greeting all the new members and their families.

“Sidey was a true gentleman and had a heart of gold, he had a positive attitude that is rarely seen. Everything he did he did without fuss.

The work Greg has done with the association over a long period of time as a coach and recruiting umpires of all ages has helped ensure that the GVFUA is the strong association it is today.

Greg will always be remembered and forever missed by the umpiring and greater sporting and local communities.

Due to the extreme weather, and the safety of all, we have decided to cancel training in Shepparton and Echuca tonight.

I encourage you to all head out for a casual run once it cools off. Or head down for a swim at the pool.

Umpire Myth: You must be super fit or a great athlete to be an umpire!

FALSE! Umpiring is perfect for any fitness level. With games from senior level to U12 level, you are able to officiate as a Field or Boundary Umpire with any fitness level as the play is not always moving at speed.

Goal Umpiring is also a great way to be involved, the fitness level does not have to be as high as the area you cover is much smaller. You also have the most important job of getting the score correct.

Come to a local training session in Shepparton, Kyabram, Seymour or Moama to get involved today.
